Drone Publics

Network of Humans and Nonhumans in Drone Mapping Project

Drone Publics asks how collectives of humans and nonhumans are mobilized in a network of droneports and drones designed to deliver medical supplies throughout Rwanda; a local array of unmanned aircraft to track poachers and endangered animals in Kruger National Park in South Africa; and an open source mapping project on Zanzibar. I contrast the publics protected by drones, those that engineer and design the aircraft and those targeted, commercially or otherwise, by the systems. These cases explore the future of drone use and consider how drone aircraft might effectively link, rather than divide, publics.
